We Are Building!!

Hey Loves!

I have been so desperate to share this with you for the past 6 months, WE ARE BUILDING OUR DREAM HOME, and if that wasn’t enough, WE ARE MOVING TO NOVA SCOTIA!

If you know me then you know that I don’t stay in one place for very long. I moved a lot as a child and even became an immigrant to Canada at age 14, it became a part of who I am, someone that can’t stay still for very long. But, since becoming a mum I have been on a desperate search for our place, a place we can call home for a longer time, a place with stability. That feeling came to us in Nova Scotia.

Anyway, since we are still in the early-ish stages of this next adventure I thought I would share with you the who, where, and what the actual heck we are doing.

Feb 2022

Why Nova Scotia

It’s crazy but, back in November, we took our first trip out to Halifax, NS for the first time in our lives to meet some builders, my DM’s were FLOOOOOOOODED with messages asking if we were moving out there. I didn’t even hint it as far as everyone knew, we were on vacation! This was a massive sign that Nova Scotia looked good on us haha. But, going back to the start, ever since I moved to Ontario back in 2004 I’ve felt like a fish out of water. I’ve lived here longer than I’ve lived in England (insert cry face), but it never truly felt like home. Even before Sameer and I purchased our first home back in 2014 we were looking at moving to Montreal, a thought that we had again last year. We actively sought out locations, and met with builders and real estate agents on the outskirts of Montreal but again as much as we love it, it just didn’t feel right. I took to realtor.ca desperately searching for places that caught my eye, and that’s when I found Nova Scotia. I have to admit the first thing that was appealing to us was the cost of homes out there, an absolute steal in relation to Ontario’s out-of-control prices, but when I got off that plane for the first time it felt familiar. It reminded me of home, it reminded me of Yorkshire. There was no hustle and bustle, no big box store on every corner, and the people are some of the friendliest I have ever come across. I instantly felt a connection, thankfully one shared by Sameer.

Why are we building

We definitely contemplated purchasing an already built home, but we weren’t able to find one that was right for us, one that would be enticing enough for us to move 17+ hours (drive) away from our friends and our family. Building a home has always been a dream of mine, but I never in my wildest dreams thought it would be a reality. Nova Scotia has given us the opportunity to make that dream a reality. We met with so many incredible builders but ultimately decided on JonesCo Builders.

Why JonesCo Builders

We are so excited to be doing this project with JonesCo Builders by our sides. We spent so much time with them during our first visit and they were truly invested in finding the right plan and land that worked for us and our family. We were able to visit some of their builds and were impressed by their quality of work. The sealing deal was the land they found for us, a piece of heaven on the lake. When I tell you that every time I go to this land, or see it in pictures I could cry. It’s like it was waiting for us, it finally feels like home!

A Custom home or Off a plan?

We are very excited and incredibly overwhelmed that this home is completely custom. We are working alongside JonesCo Builders’ incredible interior designer Shay to bring our custom home dreams to reality. I have been manifesting this home for the past 3 years, and it is going to look exactly like my vision. Although we are in the very early stages, we are actually heading to our kitchen designers right now to start prepping. Eeek!

What’s next

I have been putting off telling you for the past while as we had a few complications but now we are in the swing of things I wanted to announce, although we still have a while to go. Firstly, we have to sell our current home which in today’s changing market is… interesting. Secondly, so far we have broken ground, and poured the basement, which is INSANELY EXCITING!! We have been waiting since Feb when we signed our papers to get permits in hand. Anyway, although we don’t fully have a move-in date we are hoping by the end of this year start of next, which means for the rest of 2022 I get to bring you on this exciting adventure with us, documenting and sharing everything, from kitchen design to the big move!

Our home so far

Although I am slightly shitting myself (sorry no other way to put it), about moving my family across the country, I am so excited and grateful to be able to do this, to have this adventure. I don’t take any of it for granted.
