One of the most important things about being a parent is maintaining a safe, happy, and clean environment for your kids to thrive in. Unfortunately, this can also be one of the most stressful and daunting parts of parenting and adulthood in general. On top of the difficulty, it’s often extremely expensive. Since we’ve recently moved into a new home, I’m focused on building a clean and happy environment that we can maintain as easily as possible. This is a list of some of the products and tools I use to create a safe home for my family.

Safe Cleaning Products
We all know that cleaning products can get out of control with complicated additives, fragrances and potentially toxic chemicals. When you have kids and/or pets in the house, not understanding what’s in your cleaning products can be pretty anxiety-inducing. These are some of the safe home cleaners that I love:
I’ve talked about Attitude Cleaner before. They have a big range of plant-based products that you can buy in bulk and refill yourselves. I especially like this multi-purpose cleaner for wiping down bathroom counters.
Dr. Bronner’s Sal Suds Concentrated Cleaner
Dr. Bronner’s is mostly known for their Castille soap, but Sal Suds is a great concentrated cleaner that you can use for floors, laundry, and even cars!
For our adult clothes, we love these Inso Green laundry sheets. Not only do they clean our clothes and smell great, but they also eliminate the need for big plastic jugs of detergent!
Nature Clean Toilet Bowl Cleaning Strips
I think everyone in the world hates cleaning a toilet. But these strips are a lot easier to use than most toilet cleaning products I’ve tried! You just drop them in, brush, and flush and the toilet is clean and spotless.
Baby (and toddler!) Proofing
I grossly underestimated everything my little ones would be able to get into! They can find a way to make any surface in my home dangerous and at first it caused me so much stress. One way that I maintain a safe home is by always having extra childproofing tools on hand! Especially ones that don’t accidentally make my home adult-proof too.
These clear corner protectors have literally saved us so many times. When we moved into our new house, it was amazing how many new corners we found before we let the kids run around! I always keep extras of these on hand for new furniture or toys that we need to make safer.
Sleek Socket Outlet Protectors
I really like these as an alternative to traditional socket plugs because we don’t have to remove and replace them every time we need to use an outlet. We keep the attached power strip safe and mounted under furniture or behind heavy cabinets so that we can access it, but the kids can’t.
Safety Locks with Magnetic Keys
These magnetic child locks are great for some of the cabinets that we use less frequently, but still require locks. They are completely secure and will only open when you use the magnetic key. Each of us have a magnetic key that we can use when we need it, and the kids are none the wiser!
Other Safe Home Favorites
There are a lot of ways to keep your home safe and happy. Here are some of the other favorites I rely on at home:
Nothing brings me more stress than not knowing where some of our most important documents are stored. I think all of us have woken up in the middle of the night thinking, “Do I know where my passport is?” I like this fireproof container because it holds a large number of documents but it’s easy to pick up and move in case of emergency.
I have a real fear of bed bugs and dust mites (as I should!; they’re scary!). I have waterproof mattress protectors on every mattress to keep our home safe and bed bug free!
Air purifiers are great for every home, but especially if you have little ones with allergies. These can help reduce the pollen and dust in the air and can even limit the pet hair flying around if you’ve got shedders!
Having to vacuum and mop when you’re a busy mom? Absolutely not! A wet-dry vacuum has been absolutely critical to keeping my home safe and clean in a limited time frame.
