If you’re anything like me, you are constantly looking for anything to help you get more sleep at night. Getting sufficient sleep is such an important part of overall health and wellness, but it’s not always that easy! Starting to prioritize mindfulness and meditation can definitely help improve your sleep. However, if you still lie awake at night with an active mind or body, these products for better sleep might be the key to helping you relax.
Pillow Mist
This pillow mist smells like Lavender and Chamomile, and I find that spraying this on my pillow about 10 minutes before bed helps me relax much more quickly.
Headband Headphones
If the quiet causes your brain to spiral, listening to something relaxing can help quiet those thoughts. If you share your room with a partner who loves the quiet, these headband headphones let you listen to your favorite podcast, audio book, or white noise without disrupting anyone else’s slumber.
Cooling Weighted Blanket
The pressure of a weighted blanket can help relax your body, but a traditional weighted blanket can be super uncomfortable for hot sleepers. This weighted blanket is breathable and made to have a cooling surface so that you can enjoy the pressure without all of the heat.
White Noise Machine
As someone who has always struggled to sleep, I used to hate white noise machines because I was always awake long enough to hear the sounds loop back around. Luckily, the new white noise machines have solved this problem! This machine has no loop sounds and a huge variety of noises to choose from.
Knee Pillow for Side Sleepers
Technically, sleeping on your side is not the best for your back. If you’re like me and you find it hard to break the habit, this knee pillow can help you keep your spine more straight while laying on your side. I find I wake up with a lot less pain when I use a knee pillow.
Sleep Journal
If you’re continually having difficulty sleeping, it can be confusing to figure out what the root cause of your insomnia is. I love this sleep journal because it prompts you to reflect on your nighttime routine as well as how you feel when you wake up. This can help you notice patterns in your routine that might lead to better sleep. I included this as one of the products for better sleep because having more knowledge about your sleep routine can help you fix the issues that are causing you trouble.
Pregnancy Pillow (no pregnancy required)
The C-Shaped pregnancy pillow is an absolute game changer for any woman — pregnant or otherwise. The way this pillow cradles your hips and back makes it so much easier to find a comfortable sleeping position. If you find that you have difficulty falling asleep because you just can’t get comfortable, this could be a great product for you.
Magnesium Glycinate
Make sure you discuss any supplements with your doctor or medical care provider. Magnesium Glycinate has helped with my ability to get a full night’s sleep, but it may not be safe for you to take. Always discuss any dietary supplements with a medical professional.
Magnesium is an extremely important nutrient, and many of us do not get enough in our daily diets. The Sleep Foundation has a great article on studies surrounding magnesium and healthy sleep. If you feel like magnesium could be right for you, have a chat with your doctor!
Sleepytime (Extra) Tea
This is an absolute classic for a reason. Drinking Sleepytime tea has become such a calming ritual for me. The chamomile and valerian help me relax, but the routine of making a cup before bed helps me tell my brain: “It’s time for sleep.” It’s also delicious and a great vehicle for really good local honey.
If you need absolute darkness – Eye Mask
If you need absolute darkness to sleep, this eye mask goes all the way around your eyes to provide intense light blocking. It even comes with a travel case, so you never have to be bothered by the light from a hotel clock again!
If you cannot stand the darkness – Night Light
If you cannot sleep in absolute darkness, try this night light. It provides a really warm yellow light rather than a harsh bright light. It also has a “dusk to dawn” sensor that stops it from using electricity during the daytime.
If you try some of these products for better sleep, but still fail to get the rest you need, don’t be afraid to bring it up to your doctor or therapist. Getting a good night’s sleep is extremely important to the way you approach each day. You deserve to wake up feeling refreshed and rested.
