Behold…Santa’s Surprise!

Hello Loves,Wow has this year gone by fast or what! With Christmas only a few days away (I actually can’t believe I’m saying that… seriously a few days!!), my mind is full of entertaining inspiration.

This year we are hosting Christmas Eve dinner, and although I wouldn’t call myself Martha Stewart (I am definitely the Snoop in this situation), I do think I can whip up some rather fancy refreshments.

With my family becoming a bit older, our palettes are maturing which means the milk and cookies have been sidelined and some fancy cocktails are snow the stars of the show. In thinking about which signature drink I’ll serve at this year’s gathering, my mind went straight to Angostura bitters.

You guys probably remember my initial experience with the Trinidadian blend this past Summer…well, I have been adding a dash or two to pretty much everything since. It’s been a hit in food and drink! I also know that my family is egging crazy for eggnog, it’s a Christmas staple in the Jackson household. So after a bit of experimenting (you know I had to taste test it a couple of times to make sure it wasn’t poisonous *insert winky face*), I landed on the delicious Angostura Eggnog cocktail. Hmmm maybe I should think of a different name, it’s a bit obvious. Got it!… I came up with Santa’s Surprise!! The perfect little treat for ringing in the big day.

Ok ok, I know you can’t wait any longer and just want the recipe to make this Christmas creation. Well, here it is!

Before you start, a quick PSA. You all know that I am lazy as hell, so although this recipe includes ingredients and instructions for making eggnog from scratch, I may have picked up some store bought and called it a day. Shhh! Let’s keep that amongst friends. But if you wanted to make your own by all means, go ahead, you over-achievers!

Ingredients you will need:

  • 6 eggs, beaten
  • 2 tsp Grated Lime Zest
  • 2 – 14 oz. cans Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 3 Cups Evaporated Milk
  • 2 Cups of your favourite Rum
  • 1 oz. Angostura Orange Aromatic Bitters

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, beat eggs and lime zest using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  2. Gradually pour in the condensed milk while continuing to mix then pour in the evaporated milk.
  3. Stir in the rum and bitters and sprinkle with nutmeg.
  4. Transfer to a bottle and chill for at least 1 hour before serving. Pour over crushed ice in a glass of your choosing, and serve!

Be sure to add ANGOSTURA aromatic and orange bitters to your bar cart this holiday season so that all of your favourite beverages – from swizzles to contemporary cocktails to the classics – are only a few dashes away from holy jingle bells! It can be purchased at any of your local liquor stores and most supermarkets.

Alright, my little elves! From our family to yours, Happy Holidays! Make it one to remember.
