Whether you are a dabbler in IG or a full on Instagram addict, the lust for that epic Instagram pic is real. Everyone is doing it, even my Mum is doing it!!! She posts all the bloody time. But creating that epic IG pic is a little bit more work than just shoot and post.
Plan
Now this isn’t a strict tip, heck I’ve had people take my pic while I’m not paying attention and loved it so much. But when it comes to actually trying to achieve that epic IG shot, you gotta plan. Look up inspiration, Pinterest and Instagram are full of incredible pages and pictures, use it to get your juices flowing. Just be sure not to copy!! UGH copying is disgusting. Come up with a plan, where you’re shooting, the vibe and poses you are going for. This will make the shoot day go a heck of a lot smoother.
Angles
If you are looking to post pics of yourself, learn your angles. The best way to become comfortable in front of the camera is by practicing your poses. Get a tripod and put that baby on timer, play around and figure out what looks best. Sometimes things that feel a little awkward look great!
Location
Location, location, location! They say it’s always key, and although that can be debatable… I’ve taken some pics in some knarly places and had them do well. I think, on the whole, location is kind of important. I mean if you’re in Paris make sure you try take a pic with the Eiffel tower.
Get Creative
When it comes to getting that shot, don’t be afraid to get creative. I know we all have our poses that we know work best and the things we know our audiences love, but don’t be afraid to push the envelope sometimes. Try new angles, distances and edits. It’s funny it always tends to be the picture I fret about the most because it’s so different does the best. Of course! Haha.
Edit
It’s funny when I first started this whole IG thing I would never edit. It was only this past year I learnt what Lightroom was, and now I can’t get enough. Learn Lightroom, play around with your pictures, develop or download presets. There are so many presets available online, heck your fav IG personalities might sell their presets. Just be sure that if you download someones presets, make them your own… it’s not always plug and play, you might have to fiddle with the colours and lighting.
