15 Most Instagrammable Places – Barcelona

Hello Heros,

So as many of you already know Filipa and I have set out on some what of a sabbatical for the next month. We started off our journey in Lisbon, Portugal and are now exploring the beautiful streets of Barcelona. Boy have we walked, I mean 22 km in a day, our legs are both killing us. But it has been worth it. So much so that we have come up with a guide so maybe you won’t have to walk so much lol. Here is our 15 Most Instagrammable Places of Barcelona.

ONE

An obvious one here, La Sagrada Familia. A cathedral designed by Gaudi himself is probably Barcelona’s most iconic structure. But make sure you get there early as the crowds soon swamp all the best photo opps. We opted to head over at 7:30 in the morning, keep in mind it is the end of October so it is now pitch black. Walking through the darkness of Barcelona, wading through the locals making their way to work, we reached our destination. Along the way we grabbed a coffee, found our spot, and waited for the sun to peak out. Perfect!

TWO

Next, Arc de Triomf, we kind of just stumbled across this place while walking from our hotel to the beach but wow. It is pretty magnificent.

THREE

La Boqueria Mercat. Jeez, this market has it all, from fruit to seafood and everything in between. We stuffed our faces with some fresh fruit and washed it down with some cava. For all you foodstagrammers out there, this is the ultimate dream. Again, make sure to check out the fruit stands, it’s like a box of crayons, so many colours!!

FOUR

Think I am taking a food turn here. You´ve got to try Brunch and Cake! So there are a few locations but we opted for Brunch and Cake by the Sea. First off, the coffee was pretty great, I’ve had a hard time finding a descent cuppa Joe, but was grinning from ear to ear here, probably something to do with the double espresso. Food portions are huge so keep that in mind and get your camera out (cue food porn).

FIVE

Barceloneta Beach. Now it is not one of the best beaches in the world but boy was it great for people watching. Here you can find hawkers selling selfie sticks, beach cover ups, and even mobile bartenders with mojitos and sangria. What more could you ask for? As for the photo opp, I am sure the beautiful sands and blue waters could spark your imagination.

SIX

Ok so Park Guell is a must. But be prepared! Insider tip, book your tickets ahead of time, like probably a few days. This way you will be guaranteed a time slot and a day you want, otherwise be prepared for long lines and maybe even get turned around. We chose to book our time in the first slot, 8:00 am. This was great because it wasn’t busy at all. We scouted all our spots, took our shots, and then did our tourist thing.

SEVEN

Carmel Bunkers. Now that you’ve been to Park Guell, take the short 20 minute walk to Carmel Bunkers. These old bunkers were used to shelter nearly 7% of Barcelona’s population during the Civil War. The views are breathtaking, so be sure to take your time and soak it all up.

EIGHT

Ok so cheap eats time! Try out La Taqueria. This small joint has some of the most authentic and tasty tacos I’ve had. Yes I know we’re in Barcelona, but f**k it! I like Mexican food and all that it entails. Tacos, fajitas, and don’t forget tequila. Get it all in boys!!!

NINE

Parc de la Ciutadella, once the cities only green space, now houses: the city zoo, a small lake, museums, and a large fountain. Although we ran out of time to visit this place, we know quite a few people who had the opportunity to go. Let’s just say there images make us pretty sad we missed out.

TEN

El Xampanyet. While lost in the Gothic Quarter, be sure to check out this tapas experience. Erected in 1929 these guys are the real deal. Although we were a little intimidated at first not knowing the language or what we wanted, we quickly became one of the locals. Brushing our way to the front the bar and throwing our hands up, pointing at the different food options. Excuse me Sir we’ll have a bit of this and a bit of that please!

ELEVEN

Along your miles and miles of walking you will find numerous Gaudi works across the city. One of our favourites was Casa Battlo. Its beautiful tile work and gorgeous balconies make it a sight well remembered. Cross the street and grab a snap. Better yet take a tour of the inside if you have the time.

TWELVE

Barcelona Cathedral. Make sure this is on your list. Aside from the awesome people watching (can you tell we love to people watch), this architectural marvel scrapes the sky with its gothic columns. Snap a pic from the outside or their rooftop. Again get there early if you don’t want a sea of tourists.

THIRTEEN

Carrer del Bisbe, Gothic Quarter. This place is super cool. Within the Gothic Quarter, this bridge/archway stretches between two buildings and creates this sense of a natural break. Stop, admire, and take a few snaps. Put your phones in your pocket and just roam for hours. Stumble into cafes for a quick tapas or a drink.

FOURTEEN

Mount Tibidabo. Although we missed this one ourselves, it was definitely on our list. Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor Church, atop Mount Tibidabo, can be seen from most of Barcelona below. The views are outrageous. There is also a full-size airplane and don’t forget the ferris wheel.

FIFTEEN

Next to the Gothic Quarter is El Born, this place has a similar feel and is fun to explore and get lost in. We even found the most perfect little alley way where there was twinkly star lights strung between the shops. It felt so magical.

Wow, well I hope you enjoyed that, I know we had the most incredible time. Remember, explore the streets of Barcelona on your own accord. Forget the tourist maps at home, here, you are most definitely capable of free styling your way through the city. Maybe carry your phone just in case you get lost!!
