Thompson Playa Del Carmen

Hello Loves!

You may or may not know that I just got back from Mexico. Sameer (@playingwithapparelmen) and I decided to spontaneously fly back to where we were wed, for a little getaway. We also decided that due to the HUGE demand from you guys, we would do a couple of reviews on places to stay in the Playa Del Carmen area.

You have probably seen my previous post on my fav all inclusive location to stay, but I have never stayed in a ‘normal’ hotel while in Mexico. This is why we decided to end magnificent trip with a brief stay at The Thompson, Playa Del Carmen. As most all inclusives force you to stay for 7 days at a time (some reason it ends up more expensive if you go for less time!), which can be hard to get that time off, The Thompson is a perfect place to stay for a quick getaway.

LOCATION

The Thompson, Playa Del Carmen is conveniently located in the heart Playa on the famous bustling 5th Avenida. Steps away from incredible restaurants, never ending shopping, sun and sand. We spent our evenings sat in one of the many restaurants watching the world go by.

HOTEL

This relatively new location actually has two hotels within the city. The classic Thompson hotel and their Beach House, sat on the gorgeous Playa shores. We stayed in the Thompson hotel, however as a guest you are welcome to use the facilities of the Beach House. The Thompson hotel boasts two incredible restaurants, room service, in room spa and the most impressive rooftop infinity pool I have ever laid my eyes on.

ROOM

We stayed in the luxury king room, which had perfect people watching views of 5th Avenida. Our room was bright and spacious with a lovely terrace which housed a comfortable day bed. They also offered free wifi… which obviously was a god sent.

FOOD

The Thompson, Playa Del Carmen has three amazing restaurants. Cinco and Catch located at the main hotel and C-Grill located at the Beach House. We had the opportunity to try all of these restaurants and were BLOWN away by how delicious everything we tried was. May I recommend the ceviche… it changes everyday based on what fish the chef wants to use that day! Also head over to the Beach House bar at 6pm for a complimentary tequila tasting, not only is it free booze (haha) but every question you did or didn’t have about this local drink will be answered.

    The Thompson looks and sounds like such a great resort! I love the sound of their amenities and your room looked so lovely and modern. I’ve never been to Playa del Carmen before, so I’ll have to make note of this one. Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you’re having a great week so far!

    You’re in Paradise and seem to be enjoying every moment. It sounds like an amazing modern resort. Though I haven’t visited yet, I would loved to.
