Body Image

Hello Loves,

The other day I posted a could be controversial image on Instagram, as let’s say, a test for this posting. I wanted to make that enough of us feel the same way, that I wasn’t alone. I was blown away by the overwhelming amount of support and similarities. So today’s posting is about body image.

My entire life I have been the skinny one. Growing up I don’t think I have gone one day without being told, ‘your so skinny’. Whether these people meant it in a nice way or not, it always hits my heart like a dagger. It isn’t a compliment to me to be branded as skinny. I have enough bad memories of being called anorexic, bulimic, or ewww look at her chest bones… that pointing out that yes I am on the skinnier side is not a compliment…. I ALREADY KNOW! I LOOK IN THE MIRROR EVERY FRIGGING DAY!

I am from a long line of skinnies, this is my genetically gifted body. Will I ever accept and be happy with it? I hope so… but probably not, as no one lets me forget. The lust to gain weight controls my mind too much. Every time I have gained weight not only on the scale (ugh I hate scales), but to the point that I can see it myself, someone always has to rain on my parade by asking if I lost weight. NO ASSHOLE!

It doesn’t help that I am small all over, my breasts are none existent and my ass is shrinking as I speak…. I am also not the tallest. I stand at 5’5″. I am just little…. get over it.

I am apart of an amazing squad of 8 beautiful girls. Not one of us are alike. Our body shapes and lengths are completely different. I think they are all incredibly sexy and beautiful, however they don’t think the same about themselves. We are all on the same destructive path. Nicht Gut! (yes I took German in high school… but this is as far as it goes haha).

It doesn’t matter what we look like… everyone has their own insecurities and shit. No one is perfect. We are all human. Let’s bring each other up.

I think you’re just stunning Filipa!!! And I think that people telling you how skinny you are are just jealous! Period! I was naturally very slim in my teens and now I diet to be skinny and a size 2. So I guess noone is really happy with their looks! And the sometimes nasty comments don’t help of course!
Fashionwise, I love your dress and that series of photos is amazing! Love the setting!

I think body image is a struggle for all of us not matter what our specific issue might me. I was always the opposite, made fun of for being chubby. I think you are so beautiful just as you are! It’s so important as women to build each other up rather than tear down!

I love everything about this post, beautiful! I love how real and raw it is and how you’ve opened up about how you feel about your body because it’s relatable, everyone feels from time to time that there’s something that should be changed or that we don’t like. A lot of times, comments that are made by loved ones about our weight aren’t intended to be hurtful, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t. I grew up ALWAYS being told that I lost or gained weight, which was SO annoying! It was often at a family party or gathering in front of everyone, which made it that much more embarrassing. I think what makes it easier to accept our bodies for what they are naturally is learning how to dress and work with it. We can easily highlight those areas that makes us feel more confident with strategic styling, same is true for applying makeup. At the end of the day, it does go deeper than that, where we just need to say this is who I am and I shouldn’t feel as though I have to change or adapt to any specific image other than myself! That, I feel, is the beginning of true self love, acceptance, and liberation! You look absolutely beautiful in that dress and I love the scenery! Thanks so much for being so bold about your thoughts on this topic, it’s greatly appreciated!

I hate body shaming. Sometimes I wonder whether people who criticise us do it for purpose or whether they are unaware how hurtful their comments are.

First of all, you are gorg! And I’m not going to lie, I have no idea how someone like you struggles with body image but hearing you say that makes me realize that everyone has insecurities. As you said. I am not the skinny one – I was always the bigger one – and still feel like that all too often. Ugh! So this post totally hit home. PS Love your blog and can’t wait to read more!!

Thanks for writing this very honest post! I can so relate to the “you are so skinny” thing cause I’ve heard it all my life and I know it has often been meant as an insult. We really have to support each other as women and realize we are all unique and beautiful. You are gorgeous the way you are and it’s so important to just accept ourselves. It’s taken me a while to do so but I feel so much better now and yes I still try to gain weight but it’s not easy. You look so adorable in this dress girly! Hope you have a wonderful weekend:)

Close your ears to assholes cause you are an amazing woman! I know it is very hard cause I have been trough this and still going thorough it. I always remember myself trying to gain weight cause everyone was telling me how skinny I am, When I gained 5-6 kilos because of cortisone medicine, the same people where telling me how much fat I gained!! Can you imagine this? At that point I started realising that some people are just mean! What helps me feel better is to answer to their rude comments, cause if I don’t I regret it and obsess with it haha!
Now as for your photos and look, simply beyond gorgeous! You are such a doll and don’t waste another minute of your life thinking about people who are just jealous of you!

You shouldn’t really care about what others tell you, if you are happy as how you are then that’s all that matters. You look beautiful in that floral dress.

Beautiful post Filipa. You are a beautiful woman and I know sometimes we can struggle with body image. I have for a while when I was in my teen and early 20s I was at that stage to the point where I tried to gain weight. I am 5′ 8.5” and always been skinny but I’m not sure at what age exactly it hit me but I started loving me…myself and accepting myself for who I was/am and realizing I can not please people. I realized I had to make myself happy and that’s what I started doing. And then I met my husband when I was 25 and he accepts and loves me for who I was and he thought I was perfect. I have had 2 kids since and still to this day, I get people, especially family members telling me I am still too skinny because I never kept any weight on because I probably only weigh about 5-10 pounds more now than I did before I had kids. I am tall so I guess, it looks like I am skinnier than I am but as I said, I LOVE ME and I am not trying to make anyone happy. As long as I am happy with myself and I take care of myself and eat as healthy as I can (I’m a vegetarian), then that is all that matters. You are gorgeous and you look lovely as always! xo

I believe I have come to accept my body, well most of it. I just get so irritated with the same questions and statements.. ugh. Thank you for sharing your story with me. Everyone is being so nice, it makes me realize we all have our shit… ugh. Lets just be there for one another, and bring each other up. You are truly a beautiful woman inside and out.

I agree with you. It’s important to be comfortable in your own skin. There are so many types of shaming—skinny shamming, fat shamming that some people cannot be who they are. Cheers to our bodies, it went through so much already!

What a great post, Filipa! I was very skinny until a few months ago (I weighted about 75 pounds), when I started lifting weights at the gym and had to change my diet accordingly. Before that, I experienced the same thing you described here: everybody was commenting on how skinny I was and was asking if I eat enough. Quite a few people even told me that I will soon loose my period(!), even though I felt happy and healthy. I just couldn’t understand why people bother so much about other people being skinny or fat, to be honest. It made me really angry at times, especially since I was never dieting and loosing weight on purpose. I am simply genetically skinny, just like you:)
Anyway, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and have an amazing week ahead!
